Architecture Design Research
Cybernetics theory established principles of control and communication between animals and machines almost a century ago. In face of increasing urban challenges, these theories are more relevant than ever in discussing automation and cooperation between humans and machines within the information age.

An Expanded Live Cinema
"A 2019 micro-cinema project that speculated on what the future of volumetric broadcasting cinema may look and future like. It collected worldwide headline stories of the same year, and narrated them in a seamless 3-dimensional media environment. 'Current' stands at the convergence of livestream economy, volumetric cinema, AI optimisation, and Personalised Narratives."

Metaverse Workshop & Community Review
"30 participants from all-walks-of-life were openly invited to co-create five micro-cinema that tell the story of local urban fabrics in Hong Kong using XR and AI tools. A community review was organised to premiere the work and invited local communities to review and discuss the effects and potentials of urban redevelopment. The project was exhibited and supported by UABB 2022."

Extended Reality Workshops
In this workshop, the Current Team speculates with participants possible ways of digitally representing personas in an increasingly 3-dimensional media environment. In particular, emerging trends in omniverse, digital humans, and how such 3D data can be synthesised and automated with the use of neural networks as scalable workflows. A persona is defined as ‘a particular type of character that a person seems to have and that is often different from their real or private character’; in this sense, digital personas may assist users to voluntarily and consciously participate in the virtual world, creating behavioral data via interaction with their 3D environments.

Artificial Intelligence Workshops
In this workshop, students were invited to collaborate with synthetic intelligences to engage in speculative design, including training and asking AI with philosophical texts and questions. The narrative co-generated by the AI and the students are then visualised as deepdreams, encapsulated by a time voxel, which was a product of utilising medical imaging softwares to analyse visuals in the AI’s deepest dreams.

Collective Design Of Learning Spaces Using Immersive Digital Twins And Virtual Reality Technologies
‘Co-learning Space’ is an ongoing project that utilises methods of blended learning and two-way communication between university teachers and students in the design of learning spaces. Through co-design exercises, teachers and students may better understand each other’s needs and visions, while learning to work together in a creative manner, assisted by 3D modelling and virtual reality (VR) technologies.
In the initial phase of the project, the design team worked with educators at CUHK CLEAR to define nine teaching and learning innovation agenda, and showcased current efforts in the field through a series of open-call poster sessions in nine thematic virtual spaces.

Dataflow and design process engineering
This research experiment with various generative algorithms to understand how 3-dimensional data structure can be standardised using voxels to translate complex geometries between different software environments. The pipeline is being continuously updated with the latest algorithms and based on collective reflections with workshop participants from institutions worldwide.
